West topples Muscatine to become district champs
West hosts Muscatine for the Homecoming Game on Friday, Oct. 12.
The night began with a recognition for the Homecoming Court and seniors in band. Marcus Morgan ’20 set the pace of the game by throwing a 62-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Gaudet ’19 in the first 30 seconds of the game. Muscatine gave up a safety to add three points to the Trojan’s score. Muscatine fought back with a touchdown, but West’s strong offense prevailed throughout the game. Will Hoeft ’20 ended the quarter with a touchdown making the score 16-7. Owen McAreavy ’19 added two more touchdowns along with a touchdown run from Morgan to end the first half 37-7. Gaudet started the second half by making another touchdown. Grant Henderson ’20 ran in a fumble recovery to add another seven points to West’s score. At the end of the third quarter Peter Breitbach ’19 had a 14-yard touchdown run. The Trojans went into the fourth quarter 58-7. During the fourth quarter Muscatine added one last touchdown to make the final score 58-14.
West will take on City in the annual battle of the boot on Friday, Oct. 19. The game will begin around 7 p.m. at West High.
