The West High volleyball team has always followed the school’s tradition of excellence, and last night was no different. The main gym was packed as the Trojans faced off against Cedar Rapids Washington.

The Trojans took the first set by storm and came out strong with West putting 21 points on the board before the Warriors called their first time out. West took the first set 25-16.

The second set came out with the same energy. West was down 6-10 in the middle of the second set, with an ace from junior Lucy Schmid they were able to tie the game 12-12. The Trojans kept fighting with powerhouse junior Melae’ Lacey putting many kills on the board, pulling the Trojans to 23-23, but they were not able to come back and the Warriors took the second set.

West did not let the second set get them down, as they brought the intensity during the last two sets of the match.  The Trojans took the third set with ease and the fourth set was underway shortly. West High finished the fourth set as strong as the night had started,  crushing the last set 25-14.

Keeley Arnold’s squad will be back at home against Linn Mar on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
