Boys track Drake bound
As the annual Drake Relays are fast approaching the confirmed qualifiers for the event boast eleven events heading to Des Moines.

West High has seventeen athletes and 11 events heading to Des Moines this coming weekend for the 113th annual Drake Relays. Track athletes across the state have been training to either be top 16 to 24 or meet the blue standard guaranteeing a spot. As Drake has athletes from all school sizes competing against each other, qualifying is very challenging. Follow along this weekend to see how West High’s athletes place.
Aidan Jacobsen ’24 is ranked second going into the 400-meter hurdles (53.36) and fifth for the long jump (22’9.25).
Moustafa Tiea ’25 is ranked sixth in a time of 1:56.95 for the 800-meter run.
Izaiah Lovelss ’24 100-meter dash is ranked ninth in a time of 10:87.
4×2000 meter relay: West High goes in as first in a time of 1:28.52 by the team of Todd Rent ’24, Izaiah Loveless ’24, Christian Janis ’23 and Aidan Jacobsen ’24.
4×800 meter relay: Ranked fourth is West High’s team of Mason Van Waning ’23, Sam Showers ’25, Michael Lee ’24 and Moustafa Tiea ’25 (8:03.1).
Distance medley relay: West High’s team of Todd Rent ’24, Izaiah Loveless ’24, Aidan Jacobsen ’24 and Moustafa Tiea ’25 is third in the state with a time of 3:33.84
Shuttle hurdle relay: West’s team of Aidan Jacobsen ’24, Quinn Abbott ’24, Jesus Marungo-Murrillo ’24 and Christian Janis ’23 is ranked fourth (59.92).
4×100 meter relay: West is ranked third with a team of Todd Rent ’24, Izaiah Loveless ’24, Christian Janis ’23 and Daniel Robinson ’24 (42.47).
4×400 meter relay: West is sixth (3:23.26) with the team of Aidan Jacobsen ’24, Christian Janis ’23, Izaiah Loveless ’24 and Moustafa Tiea ’25.
