Boys track moves outdoors

The boys track season started in the beginning of March, and as we move into spring they move outdoors. WSS is here to recap their indoor season.

As the West High boys track and field team had their first outdoor meet on Thursday, March 23, WSS recaps their indoor championship meets along with those who have qualified for the Drake Relays. Moustafa Tiea ’25 met the blue standard in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.95  in the first meet of the season (placing second at the IATC championship) guaranteeing a spot at the upcoming Drake Relays at the end of April.

 

 

IATC indoor championship:

60-meter shuttle hurdle relay: The team of Jesus Marungo-Murillo ’24, Aidan Jacobsen ’24, Quinn Abbott ’24 and Ely Smock ’26 took seventh in a time of 36.42.

400 meter: Aidan Jacobsen ’24 placed third running 50.73, mere fractions of a second away from the blue standard.

800 meter: Moustafa Tiea ’25 placed second in a time of 1:56.95 reaching the blue standard and qualifying for the Drake Relays.

4×400 meter relay: Mason Van Waning ’23, Todd Rent ’24, Moustafa Tiea ’25 and Aidan Jacobsen ’24 ran a time of 3:33.91 placing them seventh.

Distance medley: the relay team of Mason Woods ’25, Julian Manson ’26, Mason Van Waning ’23 and Moustafa Tiea ’25 placed third with a time of 3:36.20.

High jump: Junior Daniel Robinson jumped the height of 5’9 feet placing ninth.

 

MVC indoor championships: 

60-meter hurdles: Aidan Jacobsen placed sixth while fellow junior Jesus Marungo-Murillo placed seventh, running in times of 8.85 and 8.93 respectively.

60-meter shuttle hurdle relay: Placed sixth with a team of Jesus Marungo-Murillo ’24, Quinn Abbott ’24, Christian Janis ’23 and Ely Smock ’26 putting up a time of 38.07.

200 meter: Izaiah Loveless ’24 placed first running a time of 22.86 and Todd Rent ’24 ran a time of 23.57 ending up in fifth.

400 meter: Izaiah Loveless ’24 placed second (51.78) and Mason Van Wanning ’23 placed 8th (54.42)

800 meter: Sam Showers ’25 ran a time of 2:08.14 placing him fourth, while Mason Van Wanning ’23 ran a time of 2:10.41 placing him fifth.

1600 meters: Moustafa Tiea ’25 took home second place in a time of 4:30.67 and Praneel Rastogi ’26 ran a 5:19.75 ending up in sixteenth place.

4×400 meter relay: West High’s team of Mason Van Waning ’23, Moustafa Tiea ’25, Sam Showers ’25 and Brice Wahe ’25 placed first in a time of 3:29.72.

High jump: Daniel Robinson ’24 jumped 5’10 placing fourth, while Carson Teghanemt ’23 jumped 5’2.

Long jump: Aidan Jacobsen ’24 jumped 21.04 feet and Adrian Westergaard ’24 jumped 18.07 ft placing them second and sixteenth respectively.

 

Steve Roth Relays (first outdoor meet): 

100-meter hurdles: Juniors Jesus Marungo-Murillo and Quinn Abbott ran times of 16.37 and 16.43 respectively.

100-meter shuttle hurdle relay: The team of Quinn Abbott ’24, Jesus Marungo-Murrillo ’24, Aidan Jacobsen ’24 and Ely Smock ’26 ran a time of 1:05.31.

100 meter: Todd Rent ’24 ran a time of 11.37, Daniel Robinson ’24 a time of 11.8, and Mason Woods ’25 a time of 11.82.

200 meter: Izaiah Loveless ’24 crossed the finish line in 22.51 seconds.

400 meter: Aidan Jacobsen ’24 placed 5th in a time of 52.06, while Mason Van Waning ran a time of 54.56.

800 meter: Moustafa Tiea ’25 placed second in a time of 2:01.11.

1600 meters: Micheal Lee ’24 took home fifth in a time of 4:49.09.

4×100 meter relay: The West High team took home first with the team of Todd Rent ’24, Izaiah Loveless ’24, Mason Woods ’25 and Harel Gameti ’25 running a time of 43.95 seconds.

4×400 meter relay: The team of Aidan Jacobsen ’24, Moustafa Tiea ’25, Mason Van Waning ’23 and Izaiah Loveless ’24 (3:31.16)

4×800 meter relay: The West high team placed third with runners Moustafa Tiea ’25, Sam Showers ’25, Mason Van Waning ’23 and Anel Vukovic ’23 crossing the finish line in a time of 8:22.93.

High jump: Daniel Robinson ’24 placed third clearing the bar at 5’08ft, Carson Teghanemt ’23 placed thirteenth clearing 5’04ft.

Long jump: West’s Mason Woods ’25 placed sixth jumping 18.11 feet.
