The girls and boys track and field teams traveled back to Drake University to compete in one of the most competitive state track and field meets in IHSAA history. With state meet and all-time records being broken by the handful each day, the Trojans were battling the best. The boys placed eleventh overall at the state championships with 26 total points, with several season bests and personal records being made. Eight of those points were earned in the second-place finish of the distance medley relay run by Todd Rent ’24, Izaiah Loveless ’24, Aidan Jacobsen ’24, and Alex Mckane ’22. McKane doubled West’s points with his additional combined eight points in the 1,600 and 3,200, placing fifth in both. Six more points came from the 400 hurdles with sophomore Aidan Jacobsen’s personal best third-place finish, combined with another PR from Clayton Bopp ’22 placing 14th. Moustafa Tiea ’25 showed his potential and contributed a point, securing eighth in his PR time in the 800 run.

The girls team tied for 26th in the end, totaling 10 points and earning two medals. The shuttle hurdle relay reigned in six points as Heba War ’23, Erinah Carter ’24, Sophia Olivo ’25, and Ella Woods ’22 brought home a bronze medal. The relay also marked a PR of 1:04.47, knocking off almost two seconds from the previous 1:06.60. Erinn Varga ’24 and Lilly McConnell ’25 earned the final four points in the 400 hurdles, with Varga finishing fifth. A final medal was awarded for West’s seventh-place finish in the 4×200 meter relay.
