The West High Math Club headed to City High to compete in the third Mathleague state qualifier along with four students from Northwest Junior High. West teams won both first and second-place team and sweepstakes for the tournament. With the top ten individual places all taken by West, more than three quarters of the team qualified for state. West is on track to be able to send three teams to the Mathleague state competition held in the spring.
Additionally, the cutoff scores for the American Invitational Math Olympiad (AIME) have been released. Historically, West has more than ten qualifiers each year. Students who took the AMC contest should check their scores with the cutoff to see if they qualified for the AIME, a selective three-hour exam that will be given in February. Scoring well on the AMC and AIME will advance a student to the next stage of the selection process for the United States Math Olympiad team.
