West High Math Club wins Mathleague Nationals

West High’s Math Club once again showed out and took home a tremendous win at the Mathleague National contest in Kansas City.

Last Saturday the West High Math Club won the Mathleague National contest in Kansas City, for the first time since 2018. This is the culmination of a series of competitions from the district to state to national level.

The competition was hybrid, with some members able to participate online. 1o members competed: Caleb Benson ’24, Thomas Keene ’23, Prabhas Gupta ’28, Catherine Xu ’26, Edward Li ’26, Andrew Chen ’25, Athena Wu ’24 and Jerry Li ’26 took the test in-person and Anish Lodh ’23 and Sofia Jin ’26 participated online.

The West High Math Club not only won the sweepstakes, but they also won with a lead of over 60 points from second place. Six members qualified to compete in the International competition this summer in Bali, Indonesia.

For individual awards, Prabhas Gupta qualified and won the Countdown Round for the in-person section, a fast-paced 1 vs. 1 contest in a bracket. Lodh won 1st in 12th grade, and Keene took 3rd in the same category. Edward Li and Xu won 1st and 2nd, respectively, in the 9th grade, with Edward Li winning 5th place overall.
