West Mock Trial teams Gold and Green, after months of rigorous preparation and dedication, traveled to the Hyatt Regency Coralville Hotel & Conference Center to compete in the Regionals Iowa High School Mock Trial competition March 21. Despite the tough competition, West’s Gold team made history by placing fifth, the highest since the start of the West Mock Trial program, while the Green team secured a respectable ninth position.
Leading the charge for West’s two Mock Trial teams, Jessica Li ’24 and Reem Kirja ’25 captain the Gold team, while Titan Ross ’26 and Jasmine Tsang ’26 steer the Green team. Waylon Houchins-Witt ’25 takes on the crucial role of team manager, and Holden Rebich ’25 is the witness captain, ensuring a strong and unified team effort.
Attorneys for the Gold team include Houchins-Witt, Rawan Babiker ’25, Marie Stier ’25, Jack Moreland ’24 and Bashir Eltyeb ’25. Rebich, Benjamin Kleiman ’24, Allison Reed ’25, Daniel Daniel Tirgardoun ’25 and Moreland are witnesses.
Attorneys for the Green team are Minna Abdalla ’26, Waad Dafalla ’26, Alice Gooblar-Perovic ’27, Aahana Gupta ’27 and Aiden Zhang ’27. Witnesses include Abdalla, Dafalla, Gooblar-Perovic, Henry Gildbertson-White ’27, Franny Jordan ’26 and Sudarshan Kasturirangan ’26.
After regionals, West’s Mock Trial Gold team will put on a showcase fundraiser to gain funds for next year’s program. The showcase will include Gold team attorneys and witnesses, with Green team substitutes Gupta, Dafalla, Gooblar-Perovic and Jordan stepping in to fill in for those who can’t attend the showcase. The showcase will be held on Sunday, April 14th, from 1:30-5 p.m. in the Little Theatre. Tickets are free, but a complimentary donation of $5 is recommended.
