Trojans take on final junior varsity meet

On May 6 the West High Trojans competed at their final non-varsity meet marking the season’s end.

On Monday, the junior varsity team competed at West’s annual Junior Varsity Trojan meet. This yearly meet serves as the final meet for all runners that won’t be running in either the state qualifying meet or the state track and field meet. The varsity runners will continue to run on May 9 at Iowa City High in the qualifying meet and May 16-18 at the state track meets.

Top five West boys placements by event:

100-meter dash: Damari Lacy ’26 tied for fifth with a time of 11.77.

800-meter run: Colin Wehrle ’27 tied for fourth with a time of 2:06.96.

4×400-meter relay: West’s teams placed fourth and fifth with times of 3:43.60 and 3:48.65.

800-medley relay: West placed fifth with a time of 1:42.79.

110-meter hurdles: Cade Towler ’27 placed third with a time of 16.78.

400-meter hurdles: Kellen Craig ’26 placed second with a time of 59.87.

3200-meter run: Evan Merrill ’27 placed fourth and Robert Stong ’24 played fifth with times of 10:31.99 and 10:35.33 respectively.

Long jump: Damari Lacy ’26 placed first, Bernoli Luvandu ’27 placed third, and Ivan Bryson ’24 placed fifth with jumps of 20 feet 6 inches, 19 feet 9.25 inches, and 19 feet 4.5 inches respectively.

High jump: Dara Olaleye ’27 placed fifth with a jump of 5 foot 6 inches.

Shot put: Elite Mbulekoya ’26 placed fifth with a distance of 42 feet 2 inches.

Discus: Elite Mbulekoya ’26 placed first and Randale Kelly ’25 placed fourth with distances of 155 feet 2 inches and 143 respectively.

800-meter dash: 8th place 2:48.24 (Helen Orszula ’24)

100-meter hurdles: 5th place 18.34 (Lily McConnell ’25)

400-meter hurdles: 1st place 1:10.36 (Eva Willis ’26)

3000-meter run: 7th place 13:05.39 (Ivy Hendrickson ’25)

Long jump: 2nd place 15-04.75 (Lindsey McKane ’25), 6th place 13-11.75 (Adriana Vargas ’26)

High jump: 3rd place 4-08.00 (Ava Bruxvoort ’25)

4×100-meter relay: 7th place 56.63 (Dede Noupougbe ’27, Alyssa McClain ’27, Vargas, Abbigail Massey ’26)

4×200-meter relay: 7th place 2:00.60 (Makiyah Brown ’27, Bruxvoort, Lucy Gardner ’26, Vargas)

4×400-meter relay: 6th place 4:40.24 (Gardner, Orszula, Olivia Orszula ’24, Jena Frank ’26), 8th place 4:53.60 (Khamissa Tiea ’26, Angelina Forte ’24, Sidney Tranel ’25, Emelia Grueter ’26)

800 medley relay: 1st place 1:59.93 (Massey, Forte, Frank, Lydia Evans ’26), 7th place 2:06.94 (McClain, Noupougbe, Kylie Stevens ’26, Tranel)

1600 medley relay: 1st place 4:47.69 (Massey, Forte, Tiea, Orszula), 4th place 5:06.43 (McClain, Noupougbe, Stevens, Tranel)

4×100-meter shuttle hurdle relay: 2nd place 1:16.24 (McConnell, Ania Willis ’26, Erin Chen ’27, Willis)
