After boasting an impressive undefeated dual meet season and a sixth place finish at the girls state swimming and diving championships, the Trojan Bolts took to the pool this year ready to continue making waves. The Trojan Bolts hosted their first meet Aug. 27 at the Coralville Community Aquatic Center against Dubuque Hempstead, placing first in every event and winning with an impressive 138-44 final score.
The girls swim team began the meet strong with a first place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay in a time of 1:56.56. The team proceeded to dominate the races, securing first place in the 200 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard IM and 50 Freestyle.
Then, the Trojan Bolt’s five divers took to the pool. During an intermission between swimming events, divers perform six dives to be judged by a panel of three judges. Led by Iowa-commit Kamila Swanson ’26, who placed third at last year’s state meet, with 268.75 points, the Trojan Bolts secured their first diving win of this season.
Following diving, Trojan Bolt swimmers continued to secure top-place finishes in every event. In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Hannah Geng ’27 secured her trip to state with an automatic state qualifying time of 54.33.
“[For] the first meet of the season, I wasn’t expecting much, but it was definitely a confidence boost to get that auto-qualifying time,” Geng said. “My goals for this season are to get top three in my events at state and just to have fun with the seniors and team.”
Senior Sabrina Du has similar goals for the season, noting the talent the team has this season.
“I’m really excited to see how far we go because we have a very fast and promising group this year,” Du said.
The Trojan Bolts will return to the pool Sept. 3 to take on Cedar Rapids Washington at the Washington High School Krizan-Voss Pool. Their next home meet will take place Sept. 10 to compete against Waterloo West.
