After their first meet Aug. 27, the girls swim and dive team dove into September ready to make waves. The team, who now boasts a 10-0 season record, dominated the pool in each of their dual meets.

Competing against the Cedar Rapids Washington Warriors, Kamila Swanson ’25, Rowan Russel ’26 and June Clark ’28 swept the podium, placing first, second and third respectively. Swanson and Russel, ranked second and 27th in the state respectively and who both qualified for the state meet last year, are continuing to dominate the pool and will likely appear at the state meet again this year.

Vs. Waterloo West

The Trojan Bolts returned to their home pool at the Coralville Recreation center Sept. 10 after winning at Cedar Rapids Washington 133-53. To start off their meet, the girls team had a strong win in the 200Y Medley relay. Throughout the meet, the Trojan Bolts continued to show their team’s depth, winning all but three individual races and sweeping all relays.

The Trojan Bolts had another strong showing against Cedar Rapids Jefferson, including notable performances like a 25.11 50Y Freestyle from Liberty’s Averie Bilskemper ’25, who finished more than a second before her competition. Bilskemper also set her season’s best in the 100Y Backstroke in a time of 1:01.14. Similarly, Hannah Geng ’27 set her season’s best of 1:01.11 in the 100Y Butterfly.

Little Hawk Relays (Bettendorf, Waukee, Pleasant Valley, City High, North Scott)
First — 426
The Trojan Bolts traveled across town to Mercer Park Aquatic Center to compete in the Little Hawk Relays hosted by City High. There, the Trojan Bolts won the meet with 426 points, and Geng secured a first and second place finish, and teammates Swanson and Gretchen Gerke each with one first place finish. Geng and Gerke have consistently impressed with their strength in Freestyle races. In the state, Geng is currently ranked fourth in both the 100Y Freestyle and 200Y Freestyle, and 10th in the 500Y Freestyle. Gerke is currently ranked 24th in the 200Y Freestyle and 13th in the 500Y Freestyle.

Vs. Wahlert Catholic

Competing again at their home pool, the Trojan Bolts hosted Wahlert Catholic. The team, committed to continuing their undefeated season, showed their strength in the pool once again. In all of the relays, the Trojan Bolts raced to first place, finishing with times of 1:45.12 in the 200Y Freestyle, 3:59.89 in the 400Y Freestyle and 1:57.96 in the 200Y Medley Relay.
Sept. 28
Cougar Invitational (Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Decorah, Des Moines Roosevelt, City High, Johnston, Pleasant Valley, Southeast Polk)
First — 454
After a tough loss last year at the Cougar Invitational, the Trojan Bolts returned this year ready to redeem themselves. After strong showings around the board, the team won the meet with 454 points, 26 points higher than second place Pleasant Valley.
Coming up
The Trojan Bolts will return to their home pool at the Coralville Recreation Center Oct. 1 to take on cross-town rival City High, also celebrating each their seniors for Senior Night.
