As the marching season comes to a close with only one football game left, the West High bands have been up to other things behind the scenes. Behind the dancing, intricate drills and pop songs, members of our West High bands have been swinging charts and improvising phrases in the mornings. For the three full jazz bands, rehearsals began in early September to get music prepared for this concert. Traditionally, the first jazz band concert of the year is Jazz Café, in December. But this year, Band Directors Brian Zeglis and Ryan Middleton chose to start a week earlier and add in an extra concert at the beginning of October. Featuring Jazz Lab, Jazz Collective and Jazz Ensemble, this concert is only the start of what is to come for these three jazz bands.
