In today’s episode of No Cap Recap, we sit down with athletes from fall sports like volleyball, golf, cross country, swimming and football to discuss their season highlights and achievements. They share insights into their favorite moments, lessons learned and what they’re looking forward to in the upcoming season.
Golf
The golf squad was led by their lone senior Emery Crawford ’25 who shot a team-best 38.6 nine-hole average and 80.59 18-hole average. Crawford finished his season by qualifying for the state meet, shooting a 164 combined over the two-day tournament.
Volleyball
The team finished a great season with a substate final loss in three sets at the hands of Dowling Catholic. They were led by Sophia Austen ’27 who finished top 15 in 5A with 307 kills on her way to first-team all-conference honors. Audrey Small ’28 and Lila Eastvold ’27 both received all-conference honorable mention honors.
Girls cross country
The team finished their season at the state qualifying meet on Oct. 23, but Kate Van Waning ’26 and Susanna Olson ’27 earned themselves a spot at the state meet and competed again the following week.
This season, Van Waning was also named to the second-team all-conference, while Olson and Kalli Titus ’25 received honorable mention honors.
Boys cross country
The boys narrowly missed qualifying for state as a team and ended up finishing fourth overall. Moustafa Tiea ’25 and Micheal Hanna ’28 qualified individually for the state meet where Tiea finished ninth with a time of 15:38.3.
Football
After earning their first playoff birth in four years, the football team advanced to the quarterfinals where they fell to Southeast Polk 42-15. They were led by Jack Wallace ’25 who became West High’s all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns. 14 other players earned all-conference honors with Declan Bunn ’25, Julian Manson ’26, Mason Woods ’25, Colin Whitters, Butali Butali ’25 and Ethan Headings ’26 all joining Wallace on the first team.
Swimming
The girls added another dominant season to their resume only losing a single duel meet this year while qualifying as a team for the state meet on Nov. 15 and 16. To complement a great season Hannah Geng ’27, Megan O’Neill ’25 and Hannah Longmire ’27 all earned first-team all-conference honors for the Trojans.
