Author to visit West
Librarians bring “Dear Martin” author to West for book group and small meetings.
Nic Stone will visit West High on Tuesday, Sept. 18 to meet with small groups of students for a discussion on her book “Dear Martin.” Students must register to attend the small book talks on the West Library homepage.
“Instead of it being a whole auditorium full of people where you wouldn’t get a chance to speak, I think it’s going to be a pretty small class size at each session,” said Jill Hofmockel, one of the librarians in charge of arranging the meeting. “It should be no problem for anybody to talk to her who wants to talk to her.”
The librarians plan on contacting students after they fill out the Google form a week before the author visits to prepare for the discussion or a small lunch students could be drawn for. Students don’t have to read the book to attend but should be prepared to participate in the conversation.
“Our hope is that the kids that come to meet her will want to continue the conversation we start with her that day,” said Hofmockel.
Students can check out one of the 229 copies of “Dear Martin” before Stone comes. Students will also be able to prepare and ask questions, so they are advised to learn more about the author through her social media before the discussion.
