Basketball teams defeat Linn-Mar
The boys and girls basketball teams hosted Linn-Mar in a doubleheader.
The girls started an exciting night against Linn-Mar with a win. Sydney Allen ’19 ended the first quarter with a buzzer-beating shot, making the score 13-12 West. The Women of Troy added 15 more points to their score to make it 28-18 going into the second half. West was able to add 24 more points to end the third quarter up 52-32. Lauren Zacharias ’19 led the Women of Troy with 21 points followed by Audrey Koch ’21 with 15. West defeated Linn-Mar 63-47. Next week, the girls basketball team will host Dubuque Hempstead on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Cedar Falls on Friday, Jan. 11 also at 7:30 p.m.
After losing to Linn-Mar on Friday, Dec. 14, the West boys were able to rematch the Lions shortly after the girls game. In a tight battle during the first quarter, West led 19-17 going into the second quarter. Patrick McCaffery ’19 led the Trojans with 15 points during the first half. By the end of the second quarter, West and Linn-Mar were tied at 28 a piece. Going into the fourth quarter West trailed 42-43. In a back and forth last quarter, Brayden Adcock ’19 made both of his free throws in the final 20 seconds of the game to regain the lead over the Lions to win the game 57-55. McCaffery ended with 22 points followed by Even Brauns ’20 with 10 points. Next week the boys basketball team will travel to Dubuque Hempstead on Tuesday, Jan. 8 to play at 7:30 p.m. and Cedar Falls on Friday, Jan. 11 to face off against the defending 4A state champions at 7:30 p.m.
