Girls track and field hosts first outdoor meet of season
The West High girls track and field team hosted the annual Women of Troy relays to open their outdoor season.
The sun shined brightly and so did the Women of Troy as they competed in their first outdoor meet of the season. Peyton Steva ’19 placed first in the 100 meter hurdles race with a time of 15.15, breaking the previous meet record set by Valerie Welch ’17. Katie Severt ’19 placed first in the long jump with a jump of 17-10, which met the Drake Relays Blue Oval Standard. Severt is now automatically qualified for the event at the Drake Relays held in late April. Alexie Little ’20 had a clean sweep of shot put and discus with throws of 39-2 and 121-6, respectively. Deniz Ince ’19 took home first place in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:22.64. The Women of Troy will compete next on Saturday, March 30 at Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids.
