West High looking to add lacrosse

The team will become a permanent addition if a minimum amount of students display interest.

The athletic department is considering adding a lacrosse team. The team has not yet formed and is in “stage one” of the process, but the organizers, Aniyah Flynn ’22 and Arionnah Sonii ’22 are in search of sponsors and students who are interested in the program. Depending on the number of students that show interest, the lacrosse team may be added to West.

Inspired by the addition of girls wrestling, Sonii was determined to create a new sports team that was not offered at West.

“We thought that there should be more options for people to be involved in other sports,” Sonii said.

The team will become a permanent addition if a minimum amount of students display interest. If the team forms, it will be a competitive team and not a club, just like any other sport at West.

“[Lacrosse] looks like an interesting sport [that] people will love,” Sonii said.

If anyone is interested in signing up, there are sign up sheets in the main office. If you have any questions, contact the athletic office or Flynn at [email protected] or Sonii at [email protected].
