    • Art Club
      • Art Club is a group of students who love the arts and enjoy their craft. Art club meets every Monday and works on a variety of projects from printmaking to community art installations. In art club you can socialize with other people of the same interests and discover new ways of creating together.

    • Business Professionals of America
      • Business Professionals of America is a national career and technical student led organization for serious business students.  At West High, the club is led by an Executive Board of selected students.  These individuals motivate and manage our 50 member chapter.  Events BPA attends include a Fall Leadership Conference (October), State Leadership Conference (February) and National Leadership Conference in Dallas 2022 (May).  In addition, locally, weekly meetings are held on Tuesday mornings to develop business and career readiness skills with all members.

    • Debate and Speech
    • Dongari
      • West High’s Korean culture club “Dongari” creates a multicultural environment for students especially interested in learning about the Korean culture. Our aim is to spread the influence of Korean culture at West. Anybody is welcome, as we would also like to learn about cultures apart from Korean! We discuss and learn about the Korean language, traditions, holidays, or watch movies and play games.

    • Drama/Thespians
      • Theatre West, Iowa City West High’s premiere drama program, prides itself on being a diverse and welcoming troupe that produces spectacular family-friendly shows. Students can participate by being part of the cast, orchestra, or technical crews: set, sound, lighting, hair/makeup, costumes, production, props, or stage. management. Theatre West produces two shows each school year–a fall play and a spring musical

    • G! World
      • G! World is a mentoring group created for girls of color ages 12-18 who are looking to be a part of a sisterhood, connect with people who look like them, and also girls that may self-identify as victims of crime (bullying, etc). 
        We have weekly activities that build self-confidence, strong friendships, and teach how to set and achieve goals.  We go on field trips one a month to different fun places in the community, and have two all girls conferences a year.

  • Global Health
    • In this club we research and discuss various issues related to global health, we advocate for policies we believe could make a difference, and we make educational videos on important topics (such as healthcare, access to abortion, etc.)

  • Grapevine (Literary Magazine)
    • The Grapevine, formerly Favonius, is West High’s student-produced, literary magazine that showcases students’ creative writing and visual art skills. Each publication is comprised of written works such as poetry, short stories, and shorter prose pieces. Original drawings, artworks, photographs fill the pages as well. The club itself meets weekly to discuss student submissions with the intent of putting together a publication.

    • Table Top Gaming Club
    • TALK- Mental Health Club
      • The TALK club is a mental health awareness group at West that aims to reduce stigma, strengthen students’ coping skills, and advocate for better mental health support in our school. This year we have practiced mindfulness, educated the school about how to support struggling friends, and are working to create a designated mental health space at West.

    • TSA Cyber Security (Technology Student Association)
    • TSA JETS (Junior Engineering Technical Society), Technology Student Association
      • JETS students compete every year in the national TEAMS competition sponsored by the Technology Student Association. The Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science (TEAMS) is an annual competition for middle and high school students designed to help them discover their potential for engineering. During this one-day competition, students apply math and science knowledge in practical, creative ways to solve real-world engineering challenges.  This year the competition will be held in March, right before spring break.  Contact Mr. Audia if you are interested in joining this club.

      • The West High UNICEF club is a youth-led initiative that partners with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to educate, advocate and fundraise to support UNICEF’s lifesaving work. It is a growing movement rooted in a belief that students have a vital role to play in helping the world’s children survive.
