Boys wrestling takes down Waterloo West

The boys wrestling team celebrated senior night with a 56-18 dual win over the Wahawks on Feb. 3.

After placing second as a team at the Mississippi Valley Conference meet this past Saturday the boys wrestling team was back in action at home for the last time this season to celebrate senior night and take on Waterloo West. Nate Moore’s squad took down the Wahawks by a team score of 56-18 on Feb. 3.

Senior Kael Scranton got things started for the Trojans with the fastest fall of the night when he pinned Waterloo West’s Braden Nystrom ’23 in 30 seconds to give West a 6-0 lead.

Justin Avila ’24 picked up a key second-period takedown to help him win a hard-fought match by the score of 3-2 over Waterloo West’s Amarreon Sykes ’22 at 170 pounds.

Senior Drake Davis capped off his senior night with a win by fall at 182 pounds when he pinned Waterloo West’s Isaac Taylor ’22 in 3:43.

Kyler Scranton ’25 dominated his match at 132 pounds winning by tech fall over the Wahawks’ Detravion Dollen ’22.

A handful of Trojan wrestlers won their matches on the night by forfeit including seniors Hunter Garvin and Brett Pelfrey.

The Trojan wrestling team will be back in action on Feb. 12 at Cedar Rapids Jefferson where they will wrestle for a chance to compete at the state meet in Des Moines.
