On Feb. 26, the 2022-23 show choir season came to end with the annual Swing Into Spring show. Both Good Time Company and Showtime began preparing for their shows “Volume 48” and “On The Run” in June 2022. They started off the season at “River City Rhythm” Jan. 14, where GTC placed sixth in finals and Showtime took home third place in the prep division. Their next stop was Prairie High School for “Premiere.” Good Time Company made finals with sixth place and Showtime took 2nd in the prep division. Halfway through the season the show choirs made it to “Music InMotion” where GTC placed third in Finals with Best Band and Showtime took home third in the prep division. At “Touch of Class” GTC grabbed sixth place in Finals with Best Band and Joseph Alarape ‘23 winning Star Performer and Showtime placed sixth in the prep division with Shefali Huynh ‘25 as Star Performer. At the end of the season, GTC and Showtime made their way to Pella’s “Dutch Masters.” GTC won Grand Champs as they took home first place in finals as well as Best Band, Best Vocals, and De’Jah Jordan ‘24 as Star Performer. Showtime placed second in the prep divisions and Shefali Huynh won Star Performer for the second time this season.

Throughout the season, GTC worked to win Grand Champs at “Dutch Masters” with summer practice and two rehearsals a week. Their show included songs “Want Me Back,” “Hit Me With Your Best Shot/Fighter” and more. Joseph Alarape believes that GTC Director, Luigi Enriquez, played a vital role in helping the group achieve their goals.

“Mr. E always told us whenever you’re in moments [before a performance], take a moment to take it all in and take a mental picture of where you’re at and the people you’re around,” Alarape said. I finally took his words to heart and I took that mental picture of everything and I can still see it playing vividly in my head. I’m able to see how happy we were and how much work we put in. Anxiety just immediately transferred over to pure joy and delight, and it was just a magical moment to experience and I can play in my head over and over again.”
