West Side Story: How did you first get into golf?
Cole Collier: I got into golf before my freshman year. It’s something that a lot of my family members played. So I thought I’d give it a try. I like how it’s an individual and team sport so I can focus on myself and help my team do better.
WSS: What is your team dynamic like?
CC: I’d say we have a lot of fun and always try to go out there and win. We definitely mess around a lot; we always get food after our meet and have fun at practice but leave each other alone before [competing] so we can focus.
WSS: What advice would you give incoming freshmen on the golf team?
CC: Work on [your] short game. The freshmen on JV look really good [and] hopefully they can keep getting better next year.
WSS: Who is your biggest role model in golf?
CC: My uncle. He’s a really good golfer and played at Wartburg.
WSS: Is there an achievement that you’re particularly proud of?
CC: Not really, honestly. [The team] got a couple of wins and I’ve got a couple of top threes. I you get in the top three, you get a medal.
WSS: What are your goals this season?
CC: Our goal is to try to make State. We can probably do it because of where we’re playing and how comfortable we are with the course. We’ve gotten pretty lucky with where the state qualifier is, at the [Brown Deer] course. [The Team] all have memberships around here so we put there a lot.
