Decades later, West High’s annual homecoming parade makes a return. Featuring a plethora of sports and clubs, this parade aimed to get both West High students and families in the community involved with homecoming festivities.
The parade was organized by co-chairs Jenny Struthers and Jamie Vakiner. Students had the opportunity to volunteer in exchange for silvercord hours. Volunteer duties included being part of the planning committee and helping out during the actual event.
A brief history
The first-ever West High Homecoming parade took place in 1971 but with little success. Many special activities were canceled due to a lack of student interest. These special activities included tug of war, a tricycle race, and a greased pig contest. However, the parade returned in 1975, bigger and better. This time around, there were bike races, pig roasts, floats, and The Rock and Roll Boogie Band to provide entertainment.
