As the second trimester comes to a pause and winter approaches students will find themselves with a lot more free time indoors. A perfect way to spend that time would be watching one of these lesser-known films with friends or family.
“Klaus”
Netflix
Rated PG
Genre: comedy, adventure, animation
We all know some kind of “Santa Origin Story.” The portrayal of the trope in “Klaus” however makes it feel fresh and the beautiful animation style creates a wonderful movie. Jesper is a disgraced mailman who is sent to a town up north where he quickly discovers that the residents of the town have a deep-rooted hate for each other. Eventually, Jesper befriends the local toymaker and must find a way to balance this new partnership with his necessary letters mailed quota.
“Eloise at Christmastime”
Amazon Prime Video
Rated G
Genre: comedy
A great movie for families who want to relax and watch a nice holiday comedy. Eloise is a 6-year-old girl living in the “Plaza” with her Nanny, Dog, and Turtle. During one of her strolls through the hotel, she comes across someone new, and one thing leads to another, and she ends up trying to split up a couple and trying to keep a fellow hotel resident from getting kicked out.
“Robbin’ Robin”
Netflix
Rated G
Genre: adventure, musical, stop-motion animation
A cute stop-motion film about a robin who was raised by a family of mice. To get her Christmas wish granted she sneaks into a house to wish upon a Christmas Star. The animation is very reminiscent of movies like the original “Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer” and adds a nostalgic and cozy feel to the movie.
“Black Friday”
Not rated, but if it was officially rated it would be rated R for language, gun violence, mature themes and violence.
Genre: comedy, horror, musical
Summary: While technically a musical shopping mania on Black Friday, most of that mania comes from holiday shopping. “Black Friday” is a musical about the sale of a children’s plush and how it sends the nation into a shopping craze that seems to have been orchestrated by an otherworldly force.
“Star Wars Holiday Special”
Not Rated
Genre: sci-fi
Luke Skywalker and Han Solo help Chewbacca return to his home planet of Kashyyyk to celebrate “Life Day.” The special is pretty unknown for a Star Wars movie, mainly because it got taken off the air so fast. Despite that, you can still find the full movie on YouTube. While not a “Holiday Classic,” the movie is great to watch with friends.
