The West High Orchestra and Choir had their annual winter concert Dec. 14, named Rest and Rejuvenation. The concert started with Symphony Strings playing “Mvt. III – Elegie” from Serenade for Strings by Pyotr Iliyich Tchaikovsky. After that, the choirs joined the Symphony Strings on the stage. They performed “Sleep” by Eric Whitacre, “Infinitum” by Chris Pilsner and “No.4 Hallelujah” from Too Hot to Handel: A Gospel Messiah by G.F. Handel. They were also joined by guest instrumentalists Austin Jacobs on guitar, Rich Wagor on electric bass and Brian Zeglis on percussion.
The idea behind the name of the concert, Rest and Rejuvenation, came from the concept that the year is coming to an end and is a celebration of the new year. The Orchestra and Choral Concert was formerly called the Masterworks Concert but later changed to be more inclusive of different types of music and composers.
The Choirs’ next performance is the Choirs for a Cause Jan. 10 at Liberty High School at 7:30 pm, collaborating with the Show Choir. The Orchestra’s next performance is their Mid-Winter Concert Feb. 28 at 7 pm at the Arganbright Auditorium. For their full schedules, consult the links below:
