West’s girls varsity tennis team made their return to the court Friday, ready to continue their success under Head Coach Brenda Guan. In her first season as head coach, Guan led last year’s team to qualify for both team state and individual state, ending their regular season 14-2.
Five members returned to the team this season — Audrey Crawford ’26, Claire Hahn ’25, Delmira Jara ’24, Maggie Shin ’24 and Marie Stier ’25 — and varsity brought on five new members — Elsie Gross ’27, Sophie Singh ’27, Anna Vasi ’24, Vismitha Vuppala ’24 and Grace Wang ’27.
In their first match of the season, the girls varsity tennis team took to the road to compete against Western Dubuque April 5. The match, originally scheduled for April 2, was postponed due to rain. The team’s season debut began with a strong start, sweeping the singles and doubles matches, the latter of which comprised of an eight-game superset.
