The Trojan Bolts girls team has completed their successful 2024 season, finishing their regular season dual meets 7-1, placing second at their conference meet and winning their state qualifying meet. After divers Kamilla Swanson ’25 and Rowan Russel ’26 competed in the diving meet Nov. 15, West swimmers took to the pool for the last time this season on Nov. 16 to compete in the IGHSAU State Swimming championship hosted by Marshalltown. The Trojan Bolts took eighth place with a total score of 89 points.
Diving:
Swanson placed second overall with a score of 486.90 and Russel placed 25th with 159.25 points.
Swimming:
Hannah Longmire ’27 won her division in the 50Y Freestyle in a time of 42.35 and placed second in the 100Y Freestyle in a time of 1:34.93.
Hannah Geng ’27 placed fifth in the 100Y Freestyle in 52.79 and 7th in the 200Y Freestyle with a time of 1:54.14.
Teammates Gretchen Gerke ’26 and Maggie Nguyen ’28 finished the 200Y Freestyle in 2:00.84 and 2:03.95, respectively. Additionally, Gerke and Nguyen both competed in the 500Y Freestyle, and they finished in 5:20.86 and 5:29.08, respectively.
Megan O’Neill ’25 represented West in the 100Y Backstroke, finishing in 1:03.57. O’Neill also competed in the 200Y Individual Relay with a time of 2:18.39
In the 100Y Freestyle, Averie Bilskemper ’25 placed 9th with a time of 53.45, and she competed in the 100Y Breaststroke, finishing in 1:09.34.
The 400Y Freestyle Relay team of Bilskemper, Geng, Nguyen and Bella Friessen ’25 placed 7th in 3:37.03. The 200Y Freestyle Relay team composed of Bilskemper, Cwiertny, Friessen and Geng placed 11th in 1:40.64.
As the girls season comes to a close, be on the lookout for the boys swim season beginning. The boys have their first meet on Dec. 3 at their home pool in the Coralville Recreation Center.
