After practicing for two weeks, the girls took on Solon in their season opener. The girls went 26 of 48 on field goals with a 54.2 shooting percentage. They had a total of 27 rebounds, nine being offensive and 18 being defensive. They also had 14 total assists and 15 total steals.
For the Trojans, their starting line-up this year is young and they return three starters from last season. Returning from last season is Ava Freese ’26, Grace Fincham ’26 and Sasha Baldwin ’27. New to the starting line-up this year is Kate Van Waning ’26 and Abby Neumiller ’26.
After the first quarter, the girls had a 12-7 lead. Heading into halftime, the girls stretched their lead to 10, winning 30-20. Coming out of halftime the girls kept a strong lead scoring 15 more points in the third. After scoring 14 more points in the fourth, the girls capped off a good game, winning 59-44.
The girls were led by Grace Fincham ’26, who scored 32 points going 15 of 18 on field goals and one for two on three-pointers. She also led in rebounds with 6 total. On the passing side of the game, it was led by Ava Freese ’26, who had five assists with just one turnover.
Off of the bench was Lauryn Hynek ’26, who went two for two on baskets, and Elle Barnett ’25 who went one for three. They combined for seven points, six rebounds, two assists and one rebound off the bench helping get the victory over the Spartans.
With a young team and a big season ahead, the girls looked good in their first game with lots more to come.
