The Iowa City West Trojans varsity boys wrestling team competed at the Dan Gable Donnybrook wrestling tournament at Xtream Arena on Dec. 6 and 7. Two boys earned silver medals in the final matches, and another three placed in the winner’s brackets.

106: Owen Smock ’28 placed second in the consolation bracket, falling to DeKalb’s (IL) Julian Hartwig in the final match.
120: Alexander Pierce ’26 placed second overall, falling to Bettendorf’s Jake Knight by decision 4-1 in the finals.
126: Matthew Tran ’27 placed 21st overall in his weight class with a record of 4-2.
126: Charles Barnhouse ’27 won his consolation bracket, defeating City High’s Chase Williams by fall.
138: Cole Krutzfeldt ’25 placed fourth overall, falling to Bettendorf’s Cody Trevino in the third-place match.
144: Bruce Cantua ’25 placed seventh in his consolation bracket with a record of 2-4.
150: Justin Avila ’25 placed second overall in his weight class, falling to Lockport Township’s (IL) Justin Wardlow in the final.
157: Campbell Janis ’26 won his consolation bracket, defeating Marian’s (IL) Connor Cassels in the final match.
165: Davey Garcia ’25 placed second in the silver A bracket at 165.
165: Carl Christianson ’25 placed third in the silver B bracket at 165.
175: Sterling Warren ’25 placed 15th overall in his weight class with a record of 2-2.
190: Jack Law ’26 placed 18th overall in his weight class with a record of 3-2.
285: Randale Kelly ’25 placed third in his consolation bracket, defeating Joliet Catholic’s (IL) Daniel Dalach in the third-place match.
The Trojans will return to the mat for the Council Bluffs Wrestling Classic from Dec. 13-14 at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
