West High’s newspaper, West Side Story, received a George H. Gallup award for the 2014-2015 year. The award is the highest honor from Quill and Scroll, the international journalism honor society. Quill and Scroll gives the award due to excellence in coverage, visuals, business practices, writing and editing.
The recommendation of several Quill and Scroll judges is needed before a paper qualifies for the Gallup. According to the Quill and Scroll judges’ comments, “[This is an] attractive, readable publication with lots of appeal for young readers. Coverage is outstanding and the material is presented in a most readable manner. Good personal profiles and much thoughtful material. A great service to your school.”
Brittani Langland ’15 was editor-in-chief of West Side Story last year, and she is currently a freshman journalism major at the University of Missouri.
