Quill and Scroll, a journalism honor society, recognized sophomore Henry Timmer-Hackert as a finalist in its national writing, photo and multimedia contest.

Timmer-Hackert is a finalist for the staff editorial he wrote for the Oct. 6, 2023 West Side Story, titled Broken Identities. Timmer-Hackert wrote the editorial, representing the majority viewpoint of the WSS editorial board, which called for support for students concerning recent legislation regarding gender identity.

Quill and Scroll selected 12% of its over 2,000 entries as finalists and will announce winners and recognize finalists at the JEA/NSPA National Journalism Convention in Kansas City, Mo. on April 6.

Additionally, all award winners are eligible as seniors to apply for Quill and Scroll’s student scholarships.
