Arganbright Auditorium opened to West High’s choir community May 18 for the last concert of the year. West’s four groups — Treble Choir, Bass Choir, Concert Choir and West Singers — each performed a few songs before combining for the school’s annual tradition of singing to wish goodbye to the alma mater.
The evening began with a short ceremony, where choir directors Luigi Enriquez and David Haas presented seniors with pink graduation cords, representing the fine arts, and shared each senior’s favorite choir memory with the audience. Then, Eva Ortega Lopez ’26 directed seniors to perform a counterpoint arrangement of “The Story of Tonight” from the musical “Hamilton” and “You Will Be Found” from “Dear Evan Hansen.”
Treble Choir then took the stage under Haas’s direction, opening with “Still I Rise,” which featured soloists Ella Stone ’29, Ana Nodia ’29, Claire Reimer ’29, Charlotte Whiting ’27, May Connor ’29, Stellah Verry ’29, Evelyn Xu ’29, Josslyn Jordan ’29 and Awen Li ’29. They then performed “The Poet’s Song,” which was directed by Ortega Lopez — a teaching assistant and learning conductor with the group — as was their final song, “Changes,” where Zariah Jahangir ’29, Im Olszewski ’29 and Natalie Neumiller ’28 performed a trio at the start. Haas then presented a director’s award to Neumiller.
Enriquez and the Bass Choir took the floor, starting with “The Boy Who Picked Up His Feet To Fly.” After, they performed “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” which featured a solo by Henry Walter ’29. To end their section of the performance, they finished with “Stodola Pumpa.” Enriquez then awarded Isaac Nelson ’29 and Axel Brandsmeier ’29 with the director’s award.
Concert Choir followed and sang two movements of the song “Elements” — “Air,” with the lights out, and “Fire.” Then, they performed “When the Earth Stands Still” and “Ta Na Solbici.” Their performance ended when Enriquez presented the director’s award to Tirza Overholt ’26 and Becca Westfall ’26.
West Singers was the final choir to sing and they started their performance with “Lullabye,” which featured soloist Nathan Butler ’27. Afterward, they performed “Choose Love” and “Hosanna to the Son of David.” Haas then gave the director’s award to Eva Ortega Lopez ’26 and Gabriel Conrad ’26. The performance ended with all the choirs going up on stage to perform “Hymn to the Green and the Gold,” an annual tradition to say goodbye to the seniors and thank them for their time dedicated to the West High Choir program.
