West High hosted its annual combined Winter Choral Concert with Northwest Middle School students Feb. 24. The concert featured a wide variety of songs, starting with the middle school. The songs were chosen and voted on by the students. They featured songs like “Smooth Criminal” by Michael Jackson, “We’re All In This Together” from “High School Musical” and “Wait For It” from “Hamilton.” Each choir performed three songs, featuring multiple soloists.
West High’s first group to perform was the Treble Choir, a non-audition group composed of singers with higher vocal ranges. They sang two songs: “Fallin'” by Alicia Keys and “Heartbreaker” by Pat Benatar. “Heartbreaker” featured Ella Stone ’29 and Ana Nodia ’29 as soloists.
West’s other non-audition group is the Bass Choir, which sang “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen and “Sh-Boom” by The Chords. Their performance featured Henry Walter ’29 as a soloist on “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
Next, Treble Choir and Bass Choir combined to sing “No Time to Die” by Billie Eilish. Eva Ortega-Lopez ’26, the teaching assistant of Choir Director Dr. David Haas, led the choir through some of their songs and also chose the songs they sang. Ortega-Lopez got to work with the choir all year and helped them prepare for their concert, even conducting the choir for “No Time to Die.”
West’s choirs also had a student teacher, Chloe Schultz, who got to conduct many songs throughout the night.
West High’s Concert Choir performed two songs, “Great Expectations” by Brody Grant and “From The Start” by Laufey. “Great Expectations” featured Lydia Tanas ’28 and Lily Colleran ’28 for a solo and duet. Concert Choir is the second of two audition choirs at West.
West High’s top audition choir, West Singers, began with “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen, featuring soloist Thaniel Rent ’28. They ended their set with “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas.
