On Oct. 27, students and families from City, Liberty and West High filled Arganbright Auditorium to the brim Monday night to see show choirs from across the district showcase their first performances of the 2025-26 season. Junior varsity and varsity groups from each school sang a variety of songs, ranging from “Human” by Christina Perri to the “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” theme of Pokémon by Jason Paige.
City High’s JV choir Charisma opened the night with a set themed “Be Our Guest.” They were followed by varsity group 4th Avenue Jazz Company performing songs from their theme “Heartlines.” After City, Liberty High took the stage with their companies Impact and Storm, taking the audience around the country from Texas to New York with their themed displays.
West show choirs had their turn next, starting with JV group Showtime, who performed their set “Level Up,” including songs “Choose Your Fighter,” by Ava Max with soloist Mieka Hedt ’28, “Pokémon Theme” by Jason Paige with soloist Isaac Nelson ’29 and “Blood on the Dance Floor” by Michael Jackson with soloist Stellah Verry ’29.
Finally, West High’s Good Time Company finished off the showing with their 51st theme – “Minecraft” – consisting completely of medleys. The group started with “Build It Up” / “I Feel Alive” with solos by Emma Lai ’28 and Eva Ortega Lopez ’26. They then moved on to “Mambo No. 5” / “Steve’s Lava Chicken” / “Another One Bites the Dust.” Next, “Don’t Turn Out The Lights” / “Thriller” highlighted Carter Wagner ’28 in a solo. GTC finished with “Brand New Day” / “Just Playing” / “I Play” with a solo by Thaniel Rent ’28.
West choirs will send eight singers to the All-State Music Festival Nov. 20-22. All choirs’ next concert will be Choral Masterworks Dec. 9 and show choirs will perform again at the Winter Swing Show Dec. 14 and Choirs For A Cause Jan. 7.
