Coming off a tough loss to highly ranked Dubuque Hempstead, the baseball team faced off with Cedar Rapids Kennedy in an MVC doubleheader on June 16. The team lost both games of the doubleheader 6-8 and 2-10 despite some big plays from Marcus Morgan ’21 and Mitch Frey ’23.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy put themselves on the scoreboard early with two runs in the first inning. Starting pitcher Marcus Morgan ’21 held the Cougars to 3-0 through the fourth inning. The Trojans started to battle back in the fifth with an RBI double from Nate Gudenkauf ’22 and RBI singles from Mitch Frey ’23, Ryne Vanderleest ’23 and Morgan. However, that wasn’t enough for the Trojans to top the Cougars, the first game ended with a score of 6-8.

After the Cougars scored a runner in the first inning of the second game, Cade Adkins ’22 had an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning to tie up the game 1-1. The Cougars had momentum in the third inning, with a two-run and three-run home run to left field making the score 1-5. As the sun started to set, the Trojans struggled to fight back into the game. The late-night for the baseball team continued to get later as they fell to the Cougars 2-10.

The Trojans will be back on the diamond at Cedar Rapids Jefferson on June 18 in hopes of picking up two much-needed wins.
