Every Tuesday and Thursday the performers of West High’s varsity show choir, Good Time Company, get together to perfect their show. The performers work on their vocals and choreography with the help of their directors and dance captains. Senior De’Jah Jordan is one of the four captains that works very closely with the group.
West Side Story: When did you join show choir and what made you want to?
De’jah Jordan: I joined show choir my junior year, Mr. Enriquez and some of my choir friends really encouraged me to join so I tried it out.
WSS: What is something show choir has taught you?
DJ: Even though you’re tired you should still give your all. That’s when you get the most payout.
WSS: What has been your favorite show theme?
DJ: Let’s go fly a kite has to be the best one I’ve been a part of yet. I love the idea of us being happy kids and just having fun on stage!
WSS: What is your favorite thing about show choir?
DJ: The people, they’re very nerdy, I have so much love for them.
WSS: What were you feeling as you performed at your first competition?
DJ: I felt really nervous about my first competition. It’s like my muscle memory takes over but all I feel is cold. Afterwards, there’s a rush of fulfillment and it feels really nice.
WSS: What are you looking forward to most this season?
DJ: I’m looking forward to winning some competitions
WSS: What , in your opinion, is the hardest part of show choir?
DJ: Showing up for rehearsals at the beginning of the season because competition feels so far away and it’s easy to slack.
WSS: What is one thing you would want to tell someone, who has no idea what show choir is, about show choir?
DJ: Show choir is about combining the two things you love separately. Singing and dancing!
