Over the past month the West High dance team has been busy, competing and showcasing their competition solos and group routines.
October 15th, Liberty’s “Be a Light” competition
Liberty held their second annual “Be a Light” competition and West dance team had seven team members compete their solos.
Solo results:
Kayla Cariens’26 placed fourth in the sophomore division
Mariah Bruening’26 placed first in the sophomore division
Taylor Stevens’24 placed second in the senior division
October 21st, “Wild West Solo Showdown”
West hosted their second annual “Wild West competition”, but this year only solos competed. Many high school dance teams and all star studios attended. West could only showcase their solos since they were hosting the competition, but the team was given scores, and many would’ve placed in the top ten if they were able to compete.
October 28th, ISDTA solo qualifiers
This year in order to compete at the state solo competition, soloists had to qualify at the ISDTA solo qualifiers in Nevada, Iowa. Soloists had to place in the top ten in order to compete their solos at state. All six soloists received a division one ranking for the solos.
What’s coming up…
On November 4th, soloists will compete at the Miss Dance Team Iowa competition held here at West. They will also showcase their routines at Liberty on November 3rd. On November 11th West Dance team will compete their group routines for the first time this season and their solos at “Stack the Stands” competition hosted by Cedar Rapids Prairie dance team.
