There’s been a lot going on for West High Student Government in the past couple of weeks. With homecoming just around the corner, preparations for the pep assembly, dance and spirit week have been in full swing, and members have been focused on making the events as action-packed as possible.
Student Government covers many different aspects of homecoming season. They manage the themes for Spirit Week, the pep assembly, the decorations and food for the dance and all of the publicity for these events. It takes a village to get these things done, and student government has many leadership positions and committees to stay organized. Student government president Moustafa Tiea ’25 anticipates the next week to be incredible.
“It’s gonna be the best homecoming season West has ever seen. We’re kicking off with the parade and Trojan Games and are going to keep the energy high with spirit week and have the home [football] game climax to the dance,” Tiea said.
The week of Sept. 30 through Oct. 4 is Spirit Week and students can dress to fit each day’s theme. The themes in order include Pajama Day, Barbeque Dad vs. Soccer Mom, Worst Outfit, Duos and Trios Day and Green and Gold to round out the week on Friday. Green is assigned to upperclassmen and gold is assigned to underclassmen. Be sure to look ahead and plan your outfits for the week!
Trojan Games will take place on Monday, Sept. 30, and feature a competition between this year’s junior and senior classes in volleyball and flag football. The homecoming parade is scheduled before the games and will happen at 6 p.m. on Sept. 30. The route will trace a neighborhood near West and will feature many different clubs, sports and organizations. The pep assembly is shaping up to be an exciting event showcasing competitions between many aspects of the school and will occur on Friday, Oct. 4th; the school will run a Thursday schedule that day. The theme of the dance this year is “Red Carpet,” so get ready to shine on Oct. 5 from 7 to 10. Tickets will be on sale all of next week, so be sure to bring your ID to purchase one.
