After demolishing Dubuque Hempstead and Cedar Rapids Jefferson last week, the boys soccer team went into their matchup hoping to win their 12th straight game of the season. With the help of junior Michael Nelson’s two goals, they were able to achieve just that, keeping their spot in the top 10 3A rankings and taking down Xavier 3-0.

After great defense and back and forth play from both teams, Hussein Mohamed ’25 gained control and got the night started with an 18’ goal just eight minutes into the game.

Nelson found a hole in Xavier’s defenders and scored at the 38-minute mark with the help of senior Ben Nkolobise’s assist. The Trojans went into halftime up 2-0.

After scrambling around Xavier’s goal due to a corner kick from the Trojans, Nelson found himself scoring his second goal of the game inside the goalie box.

The Saints could not get past goalie Nick McDonnell ’22 all night. He recorded nine saves during the game, contributing to the 3-0 win. The Trojans concluded their regular season with a 16-2 record.

The Trojans will be back in action starting their post season against either Dubuque Senior or Davenport Central on May 23.
