The Trojan-Bolts made the long trek to Marshalltown Nov. 10 and 11 to take part in the girls state swimming and diving championships. After another undefeated duals season, they finished sixth as a team and had strong performances by West High students.
After the preliminary races Nov. 10, the girls raced for medals the next day. The Trojan-Bolts started the day strong with a ninth-place finish in the 200-medley relay. West swimmer Karen Liu ’24 swam the butterfly portion of the race, helping the team to a time of 1:50:30.
Freshman Hannah Geng made a splash with a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52:99. Geng and Liu combined with Liberty swimmers earned a tenth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Geng also led her relay team to a fourth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.
Hannah Longmire ’26 captured a state title in the para 100 freestyle and placed second in the para 50 freestyle. Aimee Varga ’24 finished out her high school career in 16th place in the diving championships with a score of 366.35.
The Trojan-Bolts scored 146 points on their way to a sixth-place finish. Although the girls are done for the year, you can catch the boys swim team Dec. 5 at the Coralville Recreation Center at 6 p.m.
