Sliced: Thanksgiving edition

WSS is back again with another episode of Sliced. Watch the successes and failures of these West High students as judges determine the superior chefs.

As the holiday season approaches, it’s time for another episode of Sliced!

In what was initially a parody of Chopped, this fall episode is closer to a Great British Bake Off technical challenge. The two teams of contestants are given a vague recipe and have a limited amount of time to whip up a batch of baked goods.

The first team consists of Eleanor Weitz ’24 and Zoe Smith ’24.

When asking about a senior who bakes, “Eleanor” is likely the name you’ll hear. She is an experienced cook and loves making cookies, making this challenge right up her alley. For Smith, baking is more of a “side gig”.

Finnley Bonfig ’26 and Logan Baumgartel ’27 make up the second team of contestants self-declared as Team Playful Chef. Bonfig’s grandma owns a bakery, which inspired her love for the art. After baking since the age of four, she now owns her own bakery named Flour Power. While her family makes cookies every year, her favorite thing to prepare is cakes.

On the other hand, Baumgartel has next to no experience in the kitchen beyond making boxed brownies. In Bonfig’s words, “I’m pretty sure he’s never stepped foot in a kitchen before.”

In the spirit of fall, contestants will be tasked with making pumpkin cookies. The recipe, from In Bloom Bakery, is edited and censored as an extra challenge for our experienced chefs. As the teams scramble to assemble the baked goods in the allotted 30 minutes, show host Anna Greenlee ’26 asks them everything from their history with baking to their fall hot takes.

After the time comes to an end, it’s up to host Greenlee and judge Abby Guo ’25 to decide the superior set of cookies.

From compelling stories about the struggle of women to fun fall treats, this episode of Sliced is full of stress and laughs and is sure to keep one entertained.
