The West High football team hosted the annual Battle of the Boot at the Trojan stadium. The Trojans were neck-and-neck with the Little Hawks until a suspenseful ending leaving the Trojans down 39-40.
The game started with the West High dance team performing with elementary school girls from their kids’ clinic. Following that, the high school and middle school marching band performed a song along with the twirlers to bring the spirit up.
The first minutes of the game started with City scoring, leaving the Trojans down 0-7; however, by halftime, the Trojans were dominating with a 22-17 lead.
Midway through the third quarter, the teams were tied 25-25. This didn’t last for long, though, and minutes later, Mason Woods ’25 scored a touchdown assisted by a 14-yard pass from Jack Wallace ’25.
West was still in the lead going into the fourth quarter, and with a minute left, the Trojans were ahead 39-32. This continued until the last 22 seconds when City scored, leaving the Trojans down 39-40.
With only a few seconds left, West drove down the field and attempted a 32-yard field goal, but the kick fell short, leaving the Trojans down 39-40.
Stay tuned as the West High football team travels to Ankeny on Sept. 27 in the hopes of bringing their record up 3-2.
