Kara is a senior at West and this will be her third year on staff. She is the Online Editor-in-Chief and Co-Sports Editor this year. When Kara isn’t covering a sporting event, she can be found playing with her dogs, editing photos, hanging out with her friends and dancing FTK.

Bailey Nock '18, Kitra Bell '18 and Valerie Welch '17 celebrate after winning the 4A state distance medley relay. The group won with a time of 4:03.21, setting a new school record and running the eight best time in the history of Iowa girls track and field. Nock ran the last leg of the race and when asked what was going through her head as she passed the finish line, she said, “It was like a switch had flipped. I didn't even think about celebrating until I had crossed the finish line. The second it happened it was one of the best feelings ever. I had been so nervous leading up to it and when I finished and my teammates ran onto the track hugging me, all I could think was that we had actually done it. [It] was pure happiness.”

Ben Berhow '18 competes in the 100-meter breaststroke race at the Iowa High School State Swim Meet. He placed 13th overall with a time of 1:00.38 on Saturday, Feb. 10. When asked what it was like swimming at the Campus Recreation Wellness Center (CRWC), Berhow said, “It was amazing to get to swim in a pool that has had so many swimming legends. Olympians and NCAA champions have been in that water before and it's humbling to get to share it with them.”
