The Savanna Bananas are making their way to Kinnick Stadium. The team announced their 2026 season schedule Oct. 9 sharing 300 regular-season games. The schedule added 54 new stadiums to the league’s tour, with one of those being the University of Iowa’s Kinnick Stadium.
The unconventional baseball team was created in 2015 as a collegiate summer team, giving baseball a new element of fun. After seven years and three championships, the Bananas announced their departure from the Coastal Plain League, deciding to create their own league, the Banana Ball Championship League, to play year-round.
To bring a more interactive element to the game, Banana Ball features rule changes to make the watching and playing experience more fun. These changes include no bunting, permitting mound visits and limiting the game to two hours. Along with the rule changes, the teams add interactive elements to the game to keep the fans engaged: new fan-inclusive rules, coin flips, mid-game dance-offs and many more.
The Banana Ball League features six teams: the founding team, the Savannah Bananas, the Party Animals, who were added in 2020, followed by the Firefighters in 2023, the Texas Tailgaters in 2024 and a dual announcement of the Loco Beach Coconuts and the Indianapolis Clowns in October.
While the teams do not have home fields, they travel to different stadiums for games, playing in venues such as NFL to NCAA football stadiums. The league made history with the first baseball game played in a sold-out Raymond James Stadium, March 15, 2025. In the 2026 season, each team is set to play 60 regular-season games spread across different cities in 45 states.
The Savannah Bananas will face off against the Savannah Firefighters for the first time at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa, July 3-4. Due to high demand, the only way for fans to get tickets is to enter the ticket lottery list. The ticket lottery is open until Oct. 31 and the winners of the drawing will be announced shortly after the drawing is held.
