West High School Dance Marathon (WHSDM) held their annual hair drive after school and during seventh hour on Friday, Jan. 11. Students and teachers donated hair to make wigs for children battling childhood cancer.

Together, they donated 150 inches of hair. “This year has been difficult in terms of getting things done at the same caliber we have in the past due to our lack of an advisor and low numbers in participation, but the hair drive is one event that always seems to come together no matter what,” Caroline Young ’19, organizer of WHSDM’s hair drive said. “… It seems like a small gesture, just cutting your hair, but to the kids that don’t have the privilege of having a beautiful head of hair themselves, it means the world. Simple acts of kindness can have a much bigger impact than you imagine and holding this event reminds me of that.”

WHSDM will hold it’s big event on Sunday, Jan. 20 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the West High cafeteria. There will be tickets on sale for $10 during all lunches next week.
