Under the Friday night lights is where you will find University of North Dakota commit Ethan Headings ’26. His wide receiver skills have taken the state by storm, catching the attention of both teammates and coaches from across Iowa. With championship season on the horizon for the Trojans of West High, Headings has put the team in a perfect position for the games that matter most.

Going into his senior year, Headings has made a major impact for the Trojans in his final season at West. It didn’t happen overnight, though. Through hard work and a passion for the game, Headings strives to reach the potential of playing collegiate football.

“Playing football has always been a dream of mine, and I am lucky enough to be a part of a good group of guys that push me to be my best every day,” Headings said.

Headings started playing football at a young age. He played flag football and soon began tackle football in middle school. Being able to play for so long and be around the game from such a young age gave him a head start.

High school rolled around, and that’s when Heading’s football career really took off. As a sophomore, Headings made his first career start at cornerback for the Trojans. That season, Headings ended with 22.5 tackles on defense.

During his junior year, Headings really started to stand out. He was third on the team in tackles, racking up a total of 58 over the course of the season. He also started at wide receiver, catching 10 balls for a total of 176 yards. These numbers helped him get recognized by multiple colleges, and he started to get recruitment offers.

Headings received his first offer from North Dakota Feb. 2 of last year. Headings went on to receive three more offers from UNI, the Army and Air Force. He later made his final decision and committed to North Dakota on April 28, becoming a future Fighting Hawk.

This season, Headings is currently leading class 5A in receiving touchdowns with a total of 13, and he also leads class 5A in receiving yards with 1138. Headings looks to add on to those numbers in the playoffs as he and the Trojans head into the championship portion of the season.
