The Iowa City West football team honored 22 seniors, and alongside them, seniors from the twirlers, dance, band, cheerleaders and both the boys and girls cross country teams were honored. After their last match ended with a loss to Prairie, the Trojans were ready to power through.
For the first nine minutes of the game, the Trojans drove down the field and senior Campbell Janis secured a seven-yard touchdown. This early lead set the tone for the rest of the matchup. By the end of the first quarter, the Trojans were up 14-0.
Heading into the second quarter, the boys were hopeful. Linn-Mar was able to score, but West maintained its momentum and answered right back. Before halftime, Janis punched in a two-yard run to secure another touchdown for the Trojans. Janis was on fire last Friday, running for 268 yards. He, alongside his teammates, is expected to be a valuable player in tonight’s matchup. West went into halftime leading 28-7.
Shortly after halftime, West scored again, continuing to dominate. At this point, the Trojans had a firm lead and were ready to take home the victory. So far this season, the Trojans have won five games by 28 points or more, and this win reflected their strong performance. The third quarter ended with West ahead 35-14.
With seven minutes left on the clock in the final quarter, Ethan Headings ’26 scored his second touchdown of the night, sealing a 42-14 victory for the Trojans. After the win, Headings expressed confidence in the team’s mindset moving forward.
This victory marked a 7-2 record for the Trojans, tying them with Cedar Falls, who they will face tonight on the road in the first round of the playoffs. If the Trojans secure a win against Cedar Falls, they will advance to the second round, which determines who makes it to the Dome.
