The West High Boys Basketball team defeated Cedar Rapids Prairie 84-56 Friday night in the Substate Semifinal. With the win West moved to 22-0 on the season. After taking a few minutes to settle in, West took the lead a few minutes into the first quarter and never let it up. Hot shooting from Senior David Dileo sparked the Trojans early. After that West looked inside to Juniors Tanner Lohaus and Wali Parks for points. Parks led all scorers with 25 points, including a rare three at the buzzer to end the first half.

This win by the Trojans was the 53rd straight home victory since 2010. This is an empressive feat, but possibly more impressive is that the Trojans are looking to repeat as State champions for the fourth consecutive year, and to stay undefeated, the Trojans made a statement tonight. West will play in the Substate Final next Tuesday night at 5:30 pm at the US Cellular Center.

Aaron Carter, Writer and Sports Editor
Aaron is a senior at West High School. He has been on the West Side Story staff for three years now, all as sports editor. After playing basketball and baseball early in his high school career, he decided he was better at covering the events than actually playing in them so he shifted towards journalism. He now wants to do a dual major in journalism and economics at the University of Missouri, which has a top five journalism school in the nation. He hopes to someday work for ESPN or some other major sports communications company.
