Cross country recap: Cedar Rapids Invite and Bobcat Invite

The girls and boys cross country teams are off to a strong start with two #1 ranked individuals in the state. Read how the teams stacked up against some tough competition last Thursday.

The girls cross country team traveled to Noelridge Park on Thursday, September 7 for the Cedar Rapids Invite. The boys cross country team split in two, with half traveling to Marshalltown for the Bobcat Invite, while the others joined the girls. Both the boys and girls team had the #1 ranked individuals in the state, Kolby Greiner ‘19 and Bailey Nock ‘18. Both Nock and Greiner won the Varsity race while setting course records on the respective courses.

The West boys team at Noelridge Park, finished in 16th place with a score of 404 points. The top runner from West was Isaac Miller ‘18 who placed 66th. The Varsity team consisted of Miller, Micah Bailey ‘18, Daniel Neese ‘18, Ian Prescott ‘19 and Hunter Bagan ‘19.

The West girls scored 101 points with a Varsity team of Nock, Colleen Bloeser ‘18, Kiara Malloy-Sangaldo ‘21, Deniz Ince ‘19 and Erica Buettner ‘21. Nock, Bloeser and Malloy-Sangaldo all placed in the top 21, respectively. The team finished in second place behind Dubuque Wahlert.

The boys who raced in the Bobcat Invite, placed fifth, scoring 138 points. Greiner led the boys team followed up by Ethan Goers ‘18, Kyle Sulwer ‘18, Ethan Trepka ‘18 and Yousef Salama ‘19.

The girls and boys team will both travel to Iowa State University’s course to compete in the Heartland Classic on Saturday where they will compete against some of the best teams in the state, as well as in the nation.
