West High will be one of the stops for Z102.9’s High School Tailgate Tour 2018 this Friday, Sept. 21. The Tailgate will take place in the courtyard directly after school, and will last until about 5 p.m.

Z102.9 is teaming up with local businesses and organizations, including Chick-Fil-A, Falbos Brothers Pizza, Dr. Pepper, U.S. Air Force, the Iowa National Guard, Marcus Theatres and the Crisis Center. They will be bringing along free food, prizes games for the students to enjoy.

The event is being promoted by the Pep Club, a West High club led by Brianna Dusterhoft and Shannon Nock. The club works with students to get better communication throughout the school about themes for school events.

“Each Friday night [KGYN] goes to a different city or school to do the tailgate with those students,” Dusterhoft said. “They have prizes, food, games, and music, and at the end, everyone gets one of those stickers that promotes the radio to put in their car that lets them win money.”

Through the promotion of the Tailgate Tour, the Pep Club aims to find ways to involve students into the student section and get them excited about going to games. Ava Locher ‘19, one of the seniors leading Pep Club, hopes that the tailgate will be a great way to get more people to attend the football game.

“We’re trying to make the student section better and have more spirit,” Locher said. “We noticed that other teams have bigger student sections, and they always do tailgating events before every game, so we want our student section to have that spirit.”
