The 110th annual Drake Relays begin this Thursday, April 24 and will run until Saturday, April 27. West High will send a group of athletes to the blue oval to compete against the best competition Iowa has to offer. Among them are seniors Kolby Greiner, Peyton Steva, Landon Green and many more.

Marcus Morgan ’21 will make his Drake Relays debut this week in the high jump, the same event his brother Jeremy Morgan ’13 qualified for in 2013.

“I’m really excited to have gotten the opportunity to jump at the relays, because my brother got to go for the same thing,” Marcus said.

The Drake Relays is an event that Iowa high school track and field athletes will never forget, and Marcus intends to soak it all in. “[I’m] just excited I get to experience and participate in something that’s such a historic and fun event.”

In addition to high school events, the Drake Relays is host to collegiate and professional track and field races as well. Members of the Iowa track and field team, as well as former Olympians, will compete in separate divisions alongside the high school athletes.

Athletes will compete for the highly sought-after Drake Relays flags which are awarded to the winners of each event. Team scores will not be recorded.
